Depleted Soils
Yep. That's what we are looking at in this picture. Doesn't the soil look depleted to you? Well it is brown and winter. Low in magnesium. In fact depletion of this mineral might be the culprit behind some diseases. How you ask? Magnesium is necessary for many processes and preventions in our bodies. Ah, you say, I get that in my multi vitamin. Look on the label. You are probably only getting two to three percent unless you are supplementing with a magnesium or calcium and magnesium supplement. Well then I get it in what I eat? Truly how much green leafy veggies, nuts and whole grains do you eat? How many kids jump up and down for spinach, kale, and mustard greens, almonds and whole wheat not Wonder bread? Now say the soil is already depleted does that mean that there is less magnesium in those leafy green veggies you eat? Perhaps... There is interest in the role of magnesium in preventing or managing diabetes, heart disease and high blood pressure. There should also be interest in its role in preventing osteoporosis and ADHD and other mental health issues. If you drink coffee(a diuretic), alcohol, soda or take blood pressure meds or consume mass quantities of dairy products you risk leaching magnesium from your supplies. I find this very interesting as even with all the advances in "medicine" there is still greater osteoporosis, diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, ADHD and mental health issues than ever before. Our diets as adults and what we are providing our children is killing us or causing us to have these maladies. Why is our soil depleted? Are we using all chemical fertilizers that do not regenerate the earth? As we are producing food to sustain life, our methods use the same earth over and over again without replacing what the previous crop took out.
